Skip Sullins grew up in a musical family. He started playing as a young boy. His mother and father were both great musicians, as are his brother and sister.
Skip came to Charleston, S.C. from the mountains of North Carolina. At the time he was playing an East Coast hotel and resort circuit (Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina), with a lot of bars and clubs along the way.
He fell in love with Charleston, its history and music scene. He asked his wife Sylvia “ lets give Charleston two years and see what happens”. They’re still in Charleston twenty years later.
Skip has played most of the beach bars, marinas, downtown venues and about everything in between. His first Charleston gig was the Francis Marion Hotel, where his father and uncle pIayed and did a weekly radio show from there in the 1930’s. Except for 1998 when he traveled the Western United States, Charleston, S.C. has been home.
Skip describes his music as “ Americana/Folk Rock”. When asked to play his favorite song it’s anything he has just learned or written. If you like Gordon Lightfoot, John Prine, or Bob Dylan Skip Sullins is right up your alley.
Skip performs solo most of the time but does occasional duets with some friends. Skip was also a founding member of the band “Barnacle Bob And The Last Buoys”.
Skip's first CD “Remember Where You’ve Been”, released in August 2002 all original except for two songs, runs the gamut from Rock, Gospel, Folk and Americana. His second CD “ I Can’t Get There From Here” released in October 2007, is a collection of his songs some friends songs and a couple of Traditional tunes thrown in for good measure.
Skip collaborated with his friend Mark McVay on “This Ain’t The Revolution” off his first CD and “ Richfield To Green River” off his second CD. He and Mark have known one another since they were toddlers.
How cool is that? His friend Ted Dominski co-wrote “A Heroes We1come”dedicated to the heroes of 9-1 1, also from his first CD. Skip’s “Song For The Singer” from his first CD was included on a compilation of Charleston Songwriters entitled “Robert Hutto And Friends” released in December 2007, on Ocean Song Records.
